Consul General
Angus Simmons assumed his duties in Mumbai on August
26, 2002. Prior to that Mr. Simmons served as Consul
General in Shenyang, China, from 1999.
Mr. Simmons
joined the Foreign Service in 1979, and has spent most
of his career in Asia. He has also served as Deputy
Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Bishkek,
Kyrgyzstan from 1997-1999, and as (Acting) Deputy
Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Rangoon, Burma
from 1993-1996. He spent over fourteen months as
Charge during his service in Bishkek and Rangoon.
Mr. Simmons has
also served in the Economic Section at the U.S.
Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, and as the Director for
Chinese Affairs at the Office of the U.S. Trade
Representative, as well as in the Economic and
Business Bureau and the Office of the Secretary (as a
line officer and in the Operations Center) at the
State Department. In addition, he has had assignments
at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, China, the U.S.
Consulate General in Hong Kong, and at the American
Institute in Taiwan (AIT).
He is a member of
the Senior Foreign Service in the class of Counselor.
His languages include Chinese, Japanese, and Russian.
Mr. Simmons is married to Julia Wei Simmons, and has
two children. He was educated at Oxford University (BA
1974), and the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced
International Studies (MA 1978). (Source:
